Why PFAS?

To make food packaging resistant to oil and liquid, some companies add chemicals called PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). PFAS are highly persistent, mobile, and toxic chemicals that threaten the health of people and wildlife. Their manufacture and use in food packaging and other products has resulted in widespread contamination of drinking water.

What can we do about it?
That’s why we’re launching a campaign to educate the public and decision-makers about the need to ban PFAS in food packaging. With 5 states and some restaurant chains already committing to do this, we are leveraging public support in key districts to influence federal policy and inspire new companies, including Burger King, to make new commitments.

Volunteer!
To do this, we will need lots of help. Right now, we are recruiting volunteers to work on our Toxic Free Future campaign through the fall. There are many ways to get involved - from collecting petitions, to driving social media campaigns, to organizing press conferences. This is a great opportunity to learn grassroots organizing skills, gain work experience, and make a big impact for our environment and public health. Also a great way to meet more people in the community who are passionate about the environment and public health!

Everyone is welcome, we just want passionate people who want to learn more about PFAS and get involved in the community.
